The Drake of October 31, 1929 greets us. Two men in an elevator having a discussion about a scammy ritual they participated in to get wealth. One is visibly upset, the other, stoic.
“There’s blood on our hands.” Stoic man said, “We’ve invited evil into our homes.”
He enters his apartment and greets his family, but his wife notices something is wrong with him. He tells her she will be truly happy in heaven and then his eyeball does some freaky shaking movements. He grabs an ax and heads toward the Mrs.
Their daughter hides under her bed and her mother comes in and crouches to the floor. She rips off her gold necklace, covered with her blood, and tells her to keep it safe and in the family. Then she dies.
Modern day Drake. Olivia is overseeing the Halloween decor in the lobby. The murderous husband from 1929 is walking in the lobby.
Henry is interviewed on the local news about the Kandinsky shooting at the mayor’s party. He’s a modest and, as the interviewer notes, unmarried hero. Jane loves that part. The reporter tells him afterwards that it’s better if he’s seen as single.
Laurel Harris, a media consultant, approaches and introduces herself. She offers her services to help Henry with keeping him famous forever and get him into politics. Who works in the mayor’s office with no political aspirations? That’s malarkey.
Brian comes home to find a dude named Scott massaging his wife on her tummy, she in a bra, them on a couch. But it’s all good. Scott’s a doctor in the building and he made a house call. Louise tries to get some pharmaceuticals out of Dr. Scott for her injury, but he tells her ice is fine. She goes in the bathroom and takes some of her own medicinal stash.
Gavin and Olivia are strolling the street, talking about the upcoming Halloween party. They make such a handsome couple. Gavin receives a threatening text saying he will pay for what he’s done. A split second later an SUV tries to run Olivia down. Two more ominous texts are sent to him. He doesn’t tell Olivia.
Any guesses on what Gavin’s deal is? Is he the devil himself or just working for him? Where does his power come from? Does Olivia know? We know that their daughter committed suicide due to knowing he is evil.
Brian opens the door to his wife’s friend and his semi-stalker, Alexis. She apologizes for kissing him and hands him the key to his apartment back. She really wants to keep her job with Louise, who is now out of pills in the bathroom. Alexis lets it slip that Doc Scott has examined Louise plenty of times. Uh oh. Something something just ain’t right.
Jane and Henry head down to the party. Retro murder husband is sharing the elevator with them. He compliments her necklace, which is the same one his wife gave to their daughter in 1929. They get out on the party floor and he heads to floor ‘B’. He goes to a hiding spot and looks at his family picture. He mutters that he must finish the job and uncovers an ax. Times have changed. Get a gun!
Gavin tells Tony the doorman what happened and that the police are aware. He goes into his safe while Tony turns his back. What is that box with what looks like a Pentagram on the top?

Jane gets a drink spilled on her costume and leaves to change. Retro murder man follows. Alexis flirts with Dr. Scott and Louise notices. Brian notices that Louise notices. Alexis and doc start heavy petting in the hallway. She snags his phone and puts it in her thigh highs without missing a kiss.
In the apartment, ghost girl, who we now know is the daughter of retro murder man, tells Jane that daddy got out. Jane opens the suitcase and sees that it’s empty. In the lining of the suitcase she finds a newspaper clipping about the murder. Ghost girl has a name: Jocelyn. Retro dad is Peter Kramer, who is now entering the apartment with his ax.
Laurel Media Woman is at the party and talks to Henry. She gives him advice on how to handle his modesty and hero status. She says he needs to get ambitious and drop the Midwestern schtick. I agree. Jane and Henry are not the reason why I watch this show at all. Put some cayenne pepper on these two or send them back to the flyover states.
Louise makes another play to Dr. Scott for pain management. Brian see them walk off together and so does Alexis.
Olivia takes her girlfriends up to Peter Kramer’s apartment and tells the tale. One friend chickens out and leaves. The other goes into the apartment for a 5 minute dare. Olivia gets knocked out by a masked man wielding a foggy substance. Grant receives a call telling him that the caller has his wife. Find her in time.
Jane is having issues as well. Peter is trying to kill her. Olivia’s assailant cuts the power to the entire building. Jane escapes and calls 911 with a guests phone. The ghostly ax can actually kill cause dude is now dead. She runs into the basement. Isn’t she always in the basement? She jumps into the dumbwaiter and pulls the rope up. Peter hears her, he sees her. She ends up on an apartment floor.
Alexis the terrible sends a text from the doctor’s phone to Louise asking her to meet him upstairs. They are stuck in the elevator together. Dr. Scott tells Louise that he knows she’s not in pain and just needs pills. Brian searches for Louis and finds her phone on the floor like that’s where we all keep them. He sees the set up text allegedly from the doctor. Nice work Alexis.
Masked kidnapper breaks into Gavin’s safe and Tony walks in to look for Olivia. He draws his gun at a motion in the penthouse. Gavin arrives to find him hanging from a rope, still alive. He tells Gavin that the guy went to the safe. Whatever that box was earlier, is now gone. Call the cops? No. Gavin sends Tony to the party and finds Olivia passed out on the terrace. She wakes up to a relieved husband. She remembers nothing after the fogging.
In the stuck elevator, Louise spills her guts about her drug past to the doctor. He tells her if she needs to talk, she can talk to him, then he moves in for a kiss. She shuts him down.
Jane calls Henry from the 5th floor. He tells media girl to call the cops because she’s just following him around anyway. Peter breaks in Jane’s hiding spot. He tells her he has to do this. In heaven, she will be truly happy. He swings and hits the wall. Out come those pesky birds who attack Peter. Jane runs out into Henry’s arms.
The lights come on and Louise and Scott emerge from the elevator. Alexis The Terrible is right there with Brian. He punches Scott and walks off.
Gavin is on the phone with the thief and tells him he needs to return the box or it will be bad for both of them. He has the mask and puts it in the safe.
The body and the ax melt into the floor. The Drake is cleaning up its secrets as it’s done for years.
