Bacterial Vaginosis

drmitchQ.  Hey, Doctor Mitch:

I have an embarrassing problem.  I have been to my GYN at least 5 times in the past 6 months for what my doctor calls ‘bacterial vaginosis’.  I have pain, itching, burning and a horrible odor coming from my vagina.  This of course is making having sex with my boyfriend close to impossible.   What can I do?  Please help me.

Itching Down Under and Out

A.  Dear Under and Out:

Women typically experience an off-white vaginal discharge that seems to worsen after intercourse with this issue and yes, it is accompanied by an unpleasant strong fishy odor.  The discharge can cause that itching, pain and sometimes, significant redness too.  Most of the time the vagina has a certain self-cleaning mechanism which maintains the health of this area.  Often with intercourse, or lots of it, the semen has antibiotics that kill the good bacteria and allow the overgrowth of many different other kinds of harmful bacteria.  This can be worsened by your taking antibiotics by mouth.   Or since the pH (acid/base balance) of the vagina is quite different from the man’s semen, a lot of unprotected intercourse means that a heavy load of semen can change YOUR pH balance and can be the breeding ground for this problem.  Often a doctor can look under a microscope and see the abnormal bacteria but then, in turn, will prescribe antibiotics as you most likely have been taking without avail because the problem keeps returning.  I LIKE AND TAKE A DIFFERENT APPROACH.  The use of

A certain type of silver, like Sovereign Silver, has the capability of killing most ‘bad’ bacteria, some parasites and most viruses.  If you would like a recipe on how to deal with your issue and hopefully not have to deal with it again, feel free to write to me at drmitch@drmitchshow.com and place the word BV in the subject matter and I shall send you the protocol.  Make sure your doctor has diagnosed this correctly since there is really no evidence that this is a STD (sexually transmitted disease) because you still need to make sure the problem you are having in not one of them!
