Grab a kleenex. STAT!
I think cancer STINKS! I call it the mushroom cloud that leaves no ones unscathed, so I am always touched when one reaches out to one in the most horrible grips of cancer to try to make things brighter, even if for a minute or two.
Bette Midler did just that when she called a fan she had formerly met, Anna Greenberg. Bette tearfully chatted with Anna. She told Anna that the world was a brighter place for Anna being in it and how much it has meant to Bette to know Anna. Bette thanked Anna’s family for bringing Anna into her world.
Anna tearfully asks Bette to fulfill one of her dreams and sing ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ to her over the phone. Of course, Bette agrees and sings to Anna, breaking down herself at the end.
Anna died shortly after the phone call.
Watch a most moving phone conversation with Bette singing at the end.
I hope this post gives you a moment to reflect and express gratitude.
On a personal note, I love you, Whitney. You have always been the wind beneath my wings…
