Are you as excited as we are for Lisa Vanderpump’s new show Vanderpump Rules? We have the first exclusive interview with one of Lisa’s staff at SUR, Jeremy Davison. Jeremy has quite an interesting story.
Jeremy Davison is a 24 year-old Half-Japanese, Half Dutch Jersey boy. He grew up in Hillsborough, NJ and spent his summers down the shore in Belmar, Brick and Seaside. At the age of 20, Jeremy moved to Montreal to work at one of Canada’s most prestigious nightclubs, Time Supperclub.
After spending 2 years living out any 20-year old’s dream of nightlife and networking in the “French New York City”, Jeremy longed for beaches and sun. He always wanted to live in California and his parents always encouraged him to move to new places and experience life from as many different perspectives as possible. Jeremy bought a one-way ticket to San Diego and moved with only a backpack and his skateboard.
Jeremy started a one-man graphic and web design company out of his apartment while helping his roommate fabricate and launch his handmade vinyl eye-wear brand. While his friends were pursuing internships and real jobs, Jeremy was exploring San Diego’s beautiful cliffs and beaches or skating around downtown.
After a year in San Diego, Jeremy decided Los Angeles was the place to be. L.A. offered greater opportunities for a young designer. Jeremy crashed with a friend and spent 3 weeks looking for a part-time job. While leaving an interview at the world-renowned Abbey, Jeremy stumbled into SUR and landed a job. He became roommates with Lisa’s son Max and moved into the heart of Hollywood.
TVFishbowl: Thanks for joining us today.
Jeremy: Thanks for having me and giving me the opportunity to allow the viewers to get to know me on a more personal level.
TVFishbowl: Did you move to LA to pursue an acting/modeling career?
Jeremy: I moved here for the weather, beaches and lifestyle.. I never intended on modeling but it seemed silly to not test the waters while I’m here. I’m currently signed with CESD fashion & print division
TVFishbowl: When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Jeremy: I wanted to be a musician. I always read biographies of rock stars and admired their ability to live so free.
TVFishbowl: What is your position at SUR? How long have you worked there?
Jeremy: Barback training to bartend.. I’ve been there for little over a year.
TVFishbowl: When you applied at SUR did you have any idea who the owner was?
Jeremy: I had no idea what SUR was or its affiliation with Lisa.
TVFishbowl: Regarding the show, Vandepump Rules, how did you find out they were going to do a reality show there? Do you remember how you felt when you learned this? Were certain employees hand-picked to be in the cast? If so, do you know why you were chosen? (of course, I know why- it’s cuz you’re perfect!! haha)
Jeremy: The show was in the works before I started working there and as far as I knew, the cast had already been selected. So initially I was just excited that the place I worked at was going to be on TV. When it got closer to actually start filming. they interviewed a few of us and I was selected from that interview.
TVFishbowl: When the core cast was changed from 9 to 6 and you weren’t 1 of the 6, how did you feel?
Jeremy: I knew going into it that the main people had already been selected so it wasn’t any surprise to me. I was actually surprised at how much camera time I actually received.
TVFishbowl: It sounds as though you & your parents are very close, and you have their blessing to follow your dreams (which I love!! good parents!) – do you stay in close contact with them? Are they worried about you being living in LA & such a fast-paced lifestyle?
Jeremy: I’m very close with my parents. They recently moved to Dana Point, CA so they’re only an hour away by the beach. (Great for mini-weekend ‘vacations’ haha) They’ve known me longer than anyone haha I’m sure they’re not surprised at the lifestyle I’ve chosen to pursue.
TVFishbowl: Did you travel a lot as a family?
Jeremy: We used to go on lots of trip together.. Mostly to Japan to see my mom’s family.
TVFishbowl: What are the family dynamics: ie: siblings, what’s your birth order? (youngest, oldest, middle)
Jeremy: I’m the only child haha probably explains a lot.
TVFishbowl: What’s been the most unexpected part of filming? Your favorite part of it? Least favorite?
Jeremy: The most unexpected part of filming was definitely how close you become with the camera crew. You’re with them for months while filming haha you get used to hanging out with them.
TVFishbowl: Did you have to read scripts or was everything filmed completely unscripted?
Jeremy: No scripts.
TVFishbowl: Who is the most famous person you’ve ever seen at SUR? In Los Angeles?
Jeremy: Celebs are in and out of SUR all the time but I’d have to say the most memorable people would be Dr. Dre, Christina Aguilara and Kim Kardashian. The most famous and memorable encounter I’ve had was probably partying with ‘The Wanted’ in their suite at the Mondrian Hotel on Sunset right when they were #1 on the charts.
TVFishbowl: You mentioned “in LA if you’re not working on multiple projects at once you’re falling behind.” Do you feel pressure to “keep up with the Joneses’”?
Jeremy: There’s definitely lots of pressure to succeed in LA but that’s what I moved out here for.
TVFishbowl: Obviously, once Vanderpump Rules airs your life is going to change drastically. You’ll be recognized everywhere you go. Have you already experienced this? Do you have any plans on how you’re going to deal with fame?
Jeremy: I feel like we have more respect for celebrities who remain down-to-earth after gaining attention. If the show does as well as everyone expects, I hope to be that type of person.
TVFishbowl: Has business picked up since the show is was picked up?
Jeremy: Definitely. Real Housewives has a large impact on how busy we are.
TVFishbowl: Where do you see yourself when you’re 30?
Jeremy: I see myself with a family, living in LA or Malibu. House with a view. Working on my designs and building my clothing line.
TVFishbowl: Is there anyone special in your life? (it had better be Jen!!) If so, how did you meet? How long have you been together?
Jeremy: There is! Haha Jennifer Bush who is also on the show. We met at SUR about a year ago and I’ve been chasing her around ever since.
TVFishbowl: Which cast members are you closest with? Any that you don’t get along with?
Jeremy: I pretty much get along with everyone.. I’m definitely closest with Stassi, Scheana, Frank, Shay, Peter and of course Jen.
TVFishbowl: Ok, I’m a HUGE Lisa Vanderpump fan – I’d probably be tongue-tied if I met her. This is kind of a chicken/egg question: Were you starstruck when you met Lisa OR were you already working at SUR & knew Lisa before you found out how famous she is?
Jeremy: Honestly I never watched an episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills prior to working at SUR so when I met Lisa I really didn’t know who she was, but her demeanor alone commands respect so I was definitely on my best behavior haha
TVFishbowl: Oh…you eat how many oysters every Sunday? How did this ritual start? Anything you want to add about this topic?
Jeremy: OYSTERS & CORONA’s!! Haha the ritual started after a long night of partying one Saturday night.. By the time we left this after-hours club it was Sunday morning and the weekly Hollywood farmers market was going on in the streets of Hollywood.. where these 2 dudes (call themselves ‘Oysters Boys’) shuck some of the freshest, most delicious oysters from their oyster farm in San Diego.. We used to split a dozen, now I’m up to 2 dozen by myself.
TVFishbowl: What do you do when you’re not working at Sur?
Jeremy: If I had it my way I’d be poolside everyday, but in LA if you’re not working on multiple projects at once you’re falling behind. I’m either on my MacBook establishing my design studio MAN+MACHINE as LA’s premier graphic and web design studio or I’m meeting with my business partner preparing to launch our street wear line in April 2013. Or I’m at the gym.. probably at the gym actually haha
TVFishbowl: What was your most memorable part of filming this season?
Jeremy: Definitely Vegas.. I can’t say why without spoiling it but hands-down Vegas.
TVFishbowl: Who is your favorite housewife?
Jeremy: Besides of course Lisa, I’d say Kyle is a very close second. She looks like one of my ex-girlfriends and I love the dynamic between her, Mauricio and her kids. Yolanda is definitely in my top 3, too. She reminds me of my mom in a lot of ways and I actually got the chance to meet her while working Brandi’s birthday party at SUR a couple of weeks ago and she was just as elegant and pleasant in person as she is on the show.
TVFishbowl: What’s your favorite movie? Actor? Actress? TV show? Band? Song?
Jeremy: I have an unhealthy obsession with Netflix documentaries. Whenever I watch TV I’m usually watching recorded episodes of Always Sunny in Philadelphia or South Park. I listen to literally everything under the sun from Modeselektor to Dave Matthews to “Pop That” by French Montana which has been on repeat for the past 48 hours in my apartment.
TVFishbowl: Do you see Vanderpump Rules as a stepping-stone for your modeling career? Have you had many modeling opportunities so far?
Jeremy: Reality shows are a modeling/acting career crusher haha it would seem as if the exposure would be great but truthfully no modeling agency wants to sign someone who did reality TV. Anyone who has a REAL acting or modeling career would never do reality TV.
TVFishbowl: You didn’t mention any interest in acting, but if you were offered a part, would you take it?
Jeremy: I would definitely take advantage of an opportunity if one popped up but I’m not actively pursuing any acting.
TVFishbowl: You seem very well-grounded, to what do you attribute this?
Jeremy: Growing up in Jersey haha.. In my environment and circle of friends you had to be confident or you’d get eaten alive. But if you take it too far and appear cocky or delusional they’re quick to chop you back down to reality haha
TVFishbowl: Do you have a life philosophy you follow? A certain belief or quote that you try to live by?
Jeremy: I feel like whether we realize it or not, we’re typically the ones who hold ourselves back from the things we really want. We let other people convince us its unrealistic or let our fears paralyze us. I was that way for a majority of my life (its natural) but it wasn’t getting me where I wanted to be so I decided it was time for a new mentality.
TVFishbowl: You seem fearless, do you see yourself that way? Have you always been this way?
Jeremy: I’m definitely not fearless but I refuse to let my fears control me. Fear has held me back from plenty of missed opportunities whether they be in my love life, career or anything else. Eventually after enough missed opportunities, I decided I wasn’t going to live that way anymore.
TVFishbowl: How do you feel about watching yourself on TV? Are you worried about editing?
Jeremy: I’m excited. I’m probably a little naïve to the power of editing but I’m not too worried about it.
TVFishbowl: Any tips for people who dream of moving to Hollywood to pursue career in the entertainment business?
Jeremy: JUST DO IT. It’s easy to find reasons to put it off, but the sooner you get out here, the sooner you can learn how the industry works and start networking.
TVFishbowl: You mentioned “street wear” regarding your clothing line. What specifically is that?
Jeremy: I just want to use the term ‘street wear’ because we want to keep it broad until we fine tune the designs
TVFishbowl: Do you want to share your Twitter handle?
Jeremy: Yes, please. @rufi0o
