GMO Foods…What Are They and Are They Good for ME?

Dear Dr. Mitch:

Almost every health journal or magazine I open today is talking about GMO foods.  I’m confused from all these sources.  Can you give me the short best of it all?

Dear G.O.:

Here is the shortest version:  ”I wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole!”  Now the story, genetically modified organism (GMO) or cross breeding our food supply with viruses or other plants for a more resistant food to the chemical companies’ anti-fungals, anti-rodenticides and insecticides in order to grow more crops does NOT make a healthier product in my opinion!  In actuality, some animal studies proclaim it makes them sick, depopulates them and possibly the world.  I think biotech companies launching a $50 million marketing campaign on TV and advertising with ‘happy children’ does not make it a good or safe product either.  Eating GMO foods ensures we eventually eat only that which is made and touched by these big companies, even seed companies are being bought up and closed down.  Getting healthy organic fruits and veggies may soon become a thing of the past unless we work hard to preserve this right. Literature shows biotech companies have spent millions of dollars to try to gain control of these food supply under the ‘guise’ (my opinion again) of trying to decrease world hunger. Is it asking too much to have food grown without the interference of toxic chemicals?  Shouldn’t we have food grown from a ‘purer’ earth as it was 1000′s and even 100′s of years ago?  I would like to maintain our capability to do this….it IS important for me and my family..what about yours? Educate yourself!  There are many internet sources for GMO foods and their possible long term side-effects and then YOU make the decision whether you will ever touch them again with a 10 foot pole!
