Kendal and King find themselves in the land of misfit toys, otherwise known as shady ex-Sealville in the Philippines. The mission is Christine and King knows some guys there. They show up at the extremely modest abode of one of his old buddies. He can help but they’re going to need money to get information in that seedy world.
Sophie gets a communication from China. Jung Li, Special Envoy, wants to do a humanitarian run for the Colorado crew. They know the Navy supplies are low. Chaplin thinks it’s a ruse, but come on and we’ll chat. Marcus learns that he’s a powerful symbol the world over. The offer: food, supplies and whatever he needs. Nothing in return. Everything is in the acceptance, Chaplin says. Jung wonders what will become of Marcus.
Shepard see runaway punk, Hawks, at a makeshift memorial. He’s the coward who left her in a firefight and added a capital ‘C’ to that when he became a deserter. His sister was killed by the Pakistani Navy last episode. Chaplin, ever so Chaplin, offers condolences and has his butt arrested.
Kylie is trying to make calls about Christine when Hopper shows up in her kitchen. He has the helmet cam and it can be hers for some dough. They meet later and he asks for $6 million to the Cayman’s for the card. They get interrupted by another guy. He reminds her that she’s passed CCTV cameras and there is going to be a coup d’état.
Hawks almost kills himself in the prison. It’s getting overcrowded and the watch crew is resentful. Master Chief goes out back and falls out in front of Shepard. The drugs.
Master Chief wakes up in the infirmary and tells Shepard what happened in the jungle.
King is thinking about cutting out after they find Christine. There’s nothing for him back home. King’s friend comes back with a picture of a guy for them to go see. His advice, “Get her out and don’t look back.” They end up at a bar. King tries to play it slow and Kendal goes all in. No time for banter. He brandishes the money and gets the information and location of where they can find her. Some dude stares at them. Caucasian American. King knew him a long time ago. The guys blast into a warehouse and rescue Christine.
The Kendal’s get time alone. He asks her about disappearing right now. He’s tried to be the best sailor and XO and he’s just so tired. King is headed to Central America. The guy at the bar? He was booted from the Navy and is now a mercenary. $5 million is on Kendal’s head compliments of the US Government. Dude is dirty and vicious. He won’t be the only one. Men like that will follow Kendal wherever he goes. So at this point, everyone would be suspect to me.
Sam wants Christine to go to Switzerland and he’ll go back to the island for her safety. She begs him to let her stay with him. She wants a life with him. Mercenaries close in on them and there’s a firefight. King’s friend tries to get the van started to get Christine out of there and it blows up in front of Kendal’s eyes. He’s paralyzed by shock.
Serrat proposes a truce to Chaplin. Food, protection. Chaplin said he’s met his kind before. Chaplin tells Shepard about all of the offers he’s had today. He’s looking for her response. “You can stop with the bug eyes.” That was funny. She’s awfully good with the wide eyed look. She doesn’t believe it will help them get home. He believes the administration will let them starve and sick out. A mistake, she says.
Chaplin has a come-to-Jesus meeting with the prisoners. He reminds them that they are on the battlefield and doesn’t have time for this prisoner crap. Short straws will get lashed. No criminals, just crimes and punishments. The two with the short straws stand forward and another volunteers for not protecting the crew. Jung watches from his porch and then goes inside. The men are shirtless and Master Chief delivers their punishments.
Jung commends Chaplin for his choice with the prisoners. Does China really care? No. He wants to remain on the island and the supplies will be delivered. Kendal and King arrive to see the Chinese flag flying. They know what that means.
Back in the Philippines, King’s ‘friend’ has Christine tied up in a room in his house. I was suspect of that blast anyway. This chick. She should get a medal when this is over, if America is still America. Geez!
Very good episode in pacing, acting and plot changes. Let’s hope for a Christmas miracle for Last Resort.
