Zucker’s named as Worldwide President of CNN. As the big Chief Executive, Zucker will broaden the definition of “news” for CNN, which has been in a ratings nose dive, domestically, for some time. CNN’s morning lineup needs, Zucker immediate attention. Zucker not only assumes executive oversight of CNN/U.S., but also of CNN International, CNN.com and HLN, among the operation’s 23 branded news and information businesses.
CNN (Cable New Network) hung out the vacancy sign when Jim Walton announced his decision to step down from his longtime post as president of CNN Worldwide. Now that Mr. Walton’s contract has expired, its out with the old and in with the much needed new, ideas, directions, fresh perspectives and strong leadership. Even the amazing Mr. Zucker will need his team to hit the ground running if they are going to pull the fledgling network out of its rating slump.
Mr. Zucker, was until today the executive producer of Katie Couric’s new daytime talk show. The show has received some very positive ratings in its opening season even with the announcement of Zucker’s departure.. TVFishbowl annalist agree that the brilliant Mr. Zucker may be the answer to CNN’s leadership prayers.
Zucker joined NBC as a researcher in 1986 and quickly become the youngest executive producer of Today. During his tenure at, Today the show enjoyed a solid lead as TV’s most-watched morning show.
Eight years later, Zucker was named president of NBC Entertainment and continued to add responsibilities before being he became the president and CEO of NBCUniversal in 2007.
CNN declined to comment, but if you listen carefully, I mean really listen, you can almost hear CNN’s employees whispering, Thank God, Its about time and please hurry.
