Taking it back to season 1, Miss Lawrence and Derek J, hairstylists from Atlanta, host the Real Housewives of Atlanta – Hairstylists Rehash Tell All. After the show starts, it becomes clear that this will be a show about their favorite scenes over the past four years, which isn’t exactly a “tell all”. But let’s get to the show.
The show starts out strong – revealing that Kandi can’t tell a story correctly, Kim lies, NeNe is a dragon, Cynthia throws shade and Phaedra can be forgettable. Then the show went downhill.
I loved reminiscing about the old clips, but I was waiting for the juice, the gossip that the hairstylists had that we, the viewers, did not. Derek J and Miss Lawrence gave us just a few bit juicy bits of gossip and some unrevealed information about the show and the ladies.
The first series of clips show Kim Zolciak and her illustrious singing career – from production to stage. Listening to Kim’s pre-production voice is hilarious, but it’s old news. Derek J let us know that Kim really wanted to sing country, instead of pop. As much as Miss Lawrence makes an analogy of her singing career to him playing football, he should realize that she still made money off ‘Don’t Be Tardy for the Party’ –hitting the top three on the iTunes chart.
Next, watching the old Kim and NeNe clips brought back memories of their good times together. Miss Lawrence and Derek J point out that they are good together and they should become friends again.
The biggest lie of all the seasons was Phaedra’s inability to tell anyone when her son was due. For all of those women who haven’t been pregnant, unless you haven’t been to the doctor, you KNOW. The doctor mentions your due date at EVERY appointment. Again, old news. But the little tidbit of gossip was that Phaedra sued Derek J for “hairstylist stuff”.
What followed was the false rumor that Miss Lawrence called Apollo gay, Cynthia’s mom and sister considering not giving the marriage certificate to Cynthia, NeNe and Kandi arguing over Kandi thinking NeNe talked about her behind her back. Derek J seemed to have insight about the last one which made the argument a non-issue, but the argument was so long ago, who can remember what it was even over?
Miss Lawrence basically calls Phaedra a heathen and a nasty woman. Now if we could find out where all that vitriol is coming from, that would be a better story than most of this special.
Then some more segments – Phaedra’s baby shower, Kandi’s conversation with her mom about her relationship with AJ, the infamous “come-to-Jesus” moment wig pull by Sheree.
The boys discuss a rumor that was started about a falling out between Miss Lawrence and Sheree, but Miss Lawrence is either not willing to talk about the argument or is ignorant of it.
We return to more spots – including discussing freak numbers, then cut over to Kim and Kandi’s disagreement about what was owed for the albums. The moment builds when Miss Lawrence mentions that he also had knowledge of the problems when mixing money with friendship. He ultimately states that he hasn’t received a dime for his song “Closet Freak” despite having a contract defining the split of the profits.
Oh, then Bravo showed Sheree’s second famous scene – “Who gonna check me boo?” That was a classic one!
Back to same ole, same ole – Miss J and Cynthia teaching the Bailey Agency prospective students how to walk. Then, a quick shot of Cynthia walking the runway. Ending the segment with NeNe telling Kim to keep her legs shut to married men.
We return to the “I’m rich bitch” scene featuring NeNe and Sheree, another classic argument. Next we see Gregg and NeNe close to the end of their relationship, where NeNe breaks down to Gregg for not being in alliance with his wife. Leaving us with the last negative clip of Sheree running back to Kim to tell her that Kandi said she would not hold a black baby. Snore.
The special ended on a sweet note where the women came together in South Africa at the orphanage, feeding, caring for and playing with the orphans.
