The Real Olivia Pope * Petraeous/Broadwell Scandal Has Called In The Fixer*

*Update* Nov. 13th-Judy Smith is now going Gladiator in the Petraeous/Broadwell/Kelly Scandal!

There was a time or two in my life when I could have used an ‘Olivia Pope’.  Someone to just come in and put the fires out with little to no ‘Scandal’ erupting.  You’d think Olivia would be an homage to a few people, rolled into one character, as writers often do.

The inspiration for the character is one woman, Judy Smith.  She is the former deputy White House Press Secretary to George H. W. Bush and now the co-executive producer on ‘Scandal’, created by Shonda Rhimes.

Crisis management isn’t something just anyone can do, especially at the depth of what can brew under the beltway, in the White House and the world of celebrity.  Judy is behind some very high profile stories:  Monica Lewinsky/Bill Clinton, D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, Michael Vick, Senator Larry Craig and the Chandra Levy murder revelations involving former U.S. Representative Gary Condit.

Educated in Public Relations and Law, she was the woman behind the scenes of cases that made worldwide news and are forever part of our culture. What I really want to know about is the stories that never met the headlines.

At the higher levels in the Bush administration, Judy Smith helped through the controversial nomination of now Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas and conflicts in the Middle East in the early 90’s.

Judy has authored one book on her

Smooth, savvy and a straight shooter who can handle the bombshell news of affairs, politics and pure scandal.

Sounds like a great inspiration for a television show.

‘Scandal’ returns Thursday 8 November on ABC.
