Rumors have been circulating that Soledad O’Brien would be leaving CNN if she wasn’t given a prime time slot but those seem to be just that…rumors. The truth is that O’Brien is partnering with CNN to form a new company, StarFish Media Group, that will produce three documentaries for CNN in 2014.
“We greatly value Soledad’s experience, and her first-rate storytelling will continue to be an asset to CNN,” said Jeff Zucker, president of CNN Worldwide, in the release. “Documentaries and long-form story telling are important to our brand and we’re anticipating more of what we’ve come to expect from her – riveting content.”
O’Brien confirmed she feels it is a definite forward move in her career and not only will she be doing what she loves to do, which is hard-hitting journalism, she will also own her work.
O’Brien will stay with CNN’s morning program “Starting Point” until the spring.

Shan, thank you for such a well-written newsbrief here. I really like and respect Ms. O’Brien and will — admittedly being selfish — miss her in my mornings. She educates me so graciously. As long as this next step is outstanding for her and we, as viewers, can enjoy more of her presentations, then I’m happy!
