During the season finale of Survivor: Caramoan, Jeff Probst gave us a cryptic message regarding what we should expect for season 27 of my favorite reality show. He showed us a picture that many of us interpreted as meaning “blood is thicker than water.” It has been rumored for quite some time that the new season of Survivor will pit some of our “favorite” castaways against their family members. Allow me to reveal to you who the returning players are. Keep in mind, however, that nothing will be considered “official” until CBS reveals the same list in a few months.
Aras Baskauskas is the first male on the list. He is a 32-year-old CEO from Venice, California. Aras was the winner of Survivor: Panama. He is perhaps best known for having a very heated rivalry with Terry Deitz. Deitz was originally supposed to be on this season with Aras, but Deitz got placed on the back burner. This is not the first time that Deitz has gotten screwed over. He was in talks to be on three previous all-star seasons. It would have been amazing to see the two of them butt heads one more time. It is rumored that Aras’ brother will be on the season, as well.
Colton Cumbie is a 22-year-old diva from Monroeville, Alabama. I am probably on a very short list of people who want to see Colton play this game again. Colton is one of the biggest villains this game has ever seen. Despite how ugly he was to others on One World, the “girrrrrl” knew how to play the game. His time was cut short due to dehydration, and his case is definitely a “what if” situation. His “plus one” is supposed to be his boyfriend.
Gervase Peterson is a name that we have not heard in a very long time. This is because he was on the original season of our beloved show. There are two things that people probably remember about Gervase during his time in Borneo. He was always smiling, and he was also very lazy. He thought it was important to preserve his energy and only work around camp whenever necessary. Will those things still pertain today now that he is in his mid-40′s? It is rumored that his family member will be one of his nephews.
Rupert Boneham. I don’t feel like I need to follow that up with anything. People who do not even watch the show know who Rupert is. This will be Rupert’s fourth time on the show. He was previously on Pearl Islands, All-Stars, and Heroes vs. Villains. He was on two of those seasons with Sandra Diaz-Twine (who won both), so I’m glad she’s not on this one as well. Honestly, as much as I love Rupert, I am not excited to see him play again. He has proven time and time again that he is not a strategic player and has no real chance at ever winning this game. I can’t say too many bad things about him, though, because he does follow me on Twitter. Best of luck to you, Rupert! We should all expect to see his wife on the show, as well.
Tyson Apostol is basically the evil version of Malcolm. He was full of one-liners, unpredictable, and a physical threat during his time on Tocantins. He was ultimately duped by Russell Hantz during Heroes vs. Villains in what proved to be a game changing move. It’ll be interesting to see him redeem himself. It is rumored that his girlfriend will be joining him on this season.
Kat Edorsson is a 23-year-old Floridian. Kat is probably most remembered for being the oddball of her all-female alliance. She often found it difficult to have intelligent things to say during her One World tribal councils, even as going as far as saying that “blindsides are fun,” right before she was blindsided by her alliance. It will be interesting to see if she will be able to scale back her personality a bit more this time around. It is rumored that her boyfriend, Hayden Moss (Big Brother 12 winner), will be her partner. I’ll give my thoughts on that situation a little later on.
Laura Morett is best known as being one of the leaders during her time in Samoa. She was ultimately taken out by Russell Hantz and the Foa Foa Four. I will reserve my opinions about her for my pre-season cast assessment. Her daughter is supposed to be on the island with her.
Monica Culpepper is probably the female who I am the most excited about seeing. Her time on One World was cut way too short due to the fact that she was not in the majority alliance. She seemed to be the total package, at least in my mind. It will also be interesting to see if she teams up with fellow One Worlders Colton and Kat. It should be expected that her husband, ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneer, Brad Culpepper will be there, as well.
Miss Survivor 2013 winner, RC Saint-Amour, has some how landed a spot on the list. I’m not sure why she is the returning player from the Philippines. I would much rather see Abi or Lisa (hell, even Angie), but we will save that conversation for a later time and date. The Investment Banker tried to play too hard too quickly last time, which was her ultimate demise. Did she learn anything by watching herself play the first time? Her father is supposedly joining her on the island.
Last, but definitely not least, we have Tina Wesson. Tina is the first female Survivor winner. She is probably best known for being in an alliance with Colby Donaldson and having a rivalry with Jerri Manthey during their stay in Australia. Tina returned for All-Stars, but she did not last very long because all former winners were early targets. I am probably most curious about what kind of game she will play this time. Although it is not confirmed, it is expected that her daughter will join her on the island.
I am not completely sure how the tribes are going to be divided. The title is “Blood vs. Water,” but some of these people are not blood-related to their family members. I guess we shall wait and see. I tried extremely hard not to make this a pre-season cast assessment. I’m sure that you could tell that it was hard for me to hold back on my thoughts. I will have plenty to say about several of these people. Don’t you worry! Feel free to chime in below with your thoughts about the returning players. Also, feel free to follow me on Twitter!
