CBS promoted this week’s Survivor episode as “In one of the most complicated and entertaining Tribal Councils ever, a brutally honest conversation leads to surprising revelations, on Survivor Philippines”. That’s putting it mildly!
So, at the last Tribal Council, just before Jeff Probst read the votes, Jonathan Penner had to use his hidden immunity idol he found once he realized he was the target. Then when he heard the vote count for him (which now didn’t count, of course), his irritation showed when they returned to camp. Trying to figure out who voted for him, he interrogated the other tribe members. Shall we say his arrogance was apparent even with the night-vision cameras?
In the reward challenge, the merged Dangrayne Tribe is split into two teams, yellow and blue. On Yellow is Denise, Jeff, Jonathan, Lisa and Malcolm. On Blue is Abi-Marie, Artis, Carter, Mike and Pete.
The teams have to swim out to bouys which have fish traps, disconnect the bouy from the weighted rope & be dragged back to shore by the rest of the team. Once 4 traps are collected, a player must dig in the sand to find a bag with a key inside. Using the key, unlock a banner box, then 2 players put together panel pieces in the correct order, so once it is hoisted up a pattern appears. It’s a close race, but Team Yellow wins the reward. Oh, yes, reward is a river cruise, with a feast of ribs, cornbread, iced tea, lemonade, potato salad and apple pie. While on the cruise, Jonathan continues his stategy of getting the target off his back by stroking the egos of those on the river boat. But will saying that he knows he probably can’t win but would love any of the other four, plus Carter, to win gain him more time on the island?
Back at camp, the losing Blue team is debating who to vote out next. Then again, the winning yellow team is doing the same thing on the boat. And when they return, everyone is doing the same plotting with everyone else. But this was only part 1 of the name game, as right now, most decide that Penner must go. Even with him bragging that he will win immunity and mess up everyone’s plan that he suspects again.
The Immunity challenge starts with an obstacle course, untying bags with puzzle pieces on wooden hurdles that players must either hop over or crawl under. The first three to the finish line move on to the puzzle challenge. Peter is first over the line, then Jeff, with a near photo finish for the last spot between Penner and Mike. Penner crosses the line and moves on. The three line up, Probst yells ‘go’ and they each have to solve a puzzle in the shape of a snake. Pete takes an early lead, Jeff makes a lot of progress and Penner seems very confused. Before you know it Penner is putting the puzzle together and it’s down to Jeff and Penner with only a couple pieces left. And, yes, you guessed it…Penner wins immunity. He isn’t going anywhere. The look of dismay and disgust comes over the faces of the other tribe members. Not one tribemate claps or congratulates him. Only Penner is happy.
Back at camp part 2 of the name game ensues. It’s practically impossible to keep track as the frenzy of whom to vote out goes from Mike, to Jeff, to Malcolm, back to Jeff, then Pete, and on and on. Lisa begins to spill to others that she found Malcolm’s hidden immunity idol and wants to blindside him. She’s working to get to final 5, spinning her wheels with plans of whom to work with. By the time they all head to Tribal council, no one seems to know who is being voted out, least of all the viewers. Malcolm knows from Pete that Lisa has spilled the beans on the idol, tho he denys it. That makes him take the idol with him to Tribal. Better safe than sorry.
Tribal becomes one big bean-spilling. Right off the bat Penner says he’s glad he won immunity because names are being thrown around like wild rice. Malcolm bags on Lisa for throwing him under the bus. Lisa then announces to all that Malcolm has an idol, and the reason she spilled that news was to prove to her original alliance how trustworthy she is. Then other members start spilling alliances and heads are spinning and jaws are dropping with all the secrets. Malcolm shows he indeed does have the idol and says he will use it if need be. This gets Abi talking and she brings out HER hidden immunity idol which floors the other players. Probst is just dumbstruck with what took place and sends them off to vote.
When Probst asks if anyone wants to play their idol, neither Malcolm or Abi do. I mean what’s the point, no one would vote for them knowing they have it. Except one twit did! WTH? Anyway, the remaining votes go to Pete and Jeff..with Jeff being sent off to jury by a vote of 5-4. And 1 vote for Abi (shakes head).
Next week should be a doozy with most not knowing whom to trust anymore.
Oh, just before the credits they showed Jeff whining about being voted out. He went on a pissy rant saying he made $60 million and why is he playing for a measly million which “is only about 600 thousand after Obama gets done with it.” Ummm, CBS, was there a reason you couldn’t just edit that political slam out? All that did was make him lose favor with me, and give me delight knowing the election results, since he’s surely pissy about that too.
