The American Idol judge has a blast from the past speaking out about her success. Her ex-husband, Tommy Mottola, is releasing a book, Hitmaker, on January 15th. It delves into their four-year marriage, which the singer has described as a private hell and controlling. How interesting that it comes out so close to Mariah’s AI judging debut on January 16th.
Tommy Mottola is the co-owner of Casablanca records and the former head of Columbia records. He left his wife of 19 years for a then 20-year-old Mariah and they married three years later. The 63-year-old is currently married to Thalia, a Mexican singer.
Mottola admits in the book that he may have been demanding of Mariah. “Was I obsessive? Yes. But that was also part of the reason for her success.” He said that he didn’t let her take a break in her early days and that’s how she found her success. Mariah has claimed emotional and verbal abuse from Tommy during their marriage.
Mariah’s road may be been harder if she hadn’t been schtupping the head of the record company, but let’s be real, the girl has talent and her records were purchased for that reason alone. I’m sure she’s ‘thrilled’ about the book.
